This afternoon I achieved some moderate success. Months ago I bought a common wormdrive Skilsaw for a specific purpose — to use with a Prazi beam cutter. I’ve never owned a Prazi and to be honest I was a little intimidated. This special built tool essentially adds a chainsaw blade to a circular saw. This wicked combination will allow you to cut a timber that is up to 12 inches thick for the smaller size and 18 inches for the larger one. For various reasons I didn’t get around to putting it together and when i did finally start working on it about a month ago I ran into a few issues. In my case I had to remove the lower guard as well as temporarily take off the upper guard. On the fourth bolt of the upper guard I ran into an issue because each of these bolts had Lock Tight on it. Let me tell you that stuff works!!! I’m not sure of the reasoning for having it but I couldn’t get the fourth bolt out for anything. I ended up messing up the top of the bolt enough I knew it was time to stop and bring in the professionals before I messed up a brand new saw!

Today I took it down to a local small tool repair shop and they used an impact wrench to get the bolt off. Once that was done it got a lot easier. It took about another half hour and I had it all set up. By way..the Prazi support is first rate!!! I called a couple of times for little things and they where prompt and very knowledgeable.

I did a small test cut to make sure things where working. After clamping a square onto a 3×6 I squared the end in about 15 seconds. It’s a nice cut other than a small amount of chipping on one side because of blade rotation. It can be easily cleaned up from what it looks like to me.

I’ll have to take some pictures and maybe a video of it after I use it a little. It will make it a lot easier to square the posts and beams as well as the trusses for the shed project.
